In our next class, we will discuss how public policy can influence consumer choices. Some local governments are considering financial incentives to encourage people to repair household products instead of replacing them. Do you think offering these incentives is a good use of public money? Why or why not?
Maya
I support the idea because repair costs can discourage people from keeping products that still have useful parts. A small discount on repairs could make keeping an appliance more affordable than buying a replacement. It could also support local repair businesses.
Daniel
I am not convinced. Some older products use much more energy than newer models, so repairing them is not always the best choice. I would prefer governments to help people buy efficient products that cost less to operate over time.
